As a traditional and historic piece of Aberdeen, the Illicit Still loves to work closely with local groups. As a result of this we are now a proud new sponsor of the Aberdeen Medics, an extremely talented local rugby team. The Medics kicked their season off to a fine start last weekend with a dominating performance over Fraserburgh RFC…
The medics started the game strong by applying good defensive pressure causing Fraserburgh to make a number of handling errors. This proved a sign of things to come as strong running from Johnstone provided him with 4 first half tries as well as a few assists for outside centre Jamie McKnight, who barely saw any of the ball.
The second half saw more of the same expansive rugby as well as a more concerted effort in defence as Fraserburgh went on the offensive.. Try’s from Timmy Welsh, Gareth Hopkins, David Roulston, Fraser Sneddon and skipper Matthew Miller helped seal another high scoring game for the medics with the score finishing 83-0.
Once back in Aberdeen the boys celebrated with their first themed social, thrift shop theme, in which everything you wore out had to have come from a charity chop. The uglier the better! Safe to say the boys didn’t find this a challenge and after a few drinks met in the Illicit still for more drinks and festivities.
The Illicit Still new menu was put through its paces by the rugby boys who had nothing but praise for the new dishes. Plenty of juicy burgers and triple deck sandwiches acted as the perfect end to a rather successful weekend!
