After two weeks off due to bad weather, the Medics were back in action in a top of the table clash against the Aberdeen University Saturday team. In the past this fixture has been a bruising encounter for both teams and Saturday was no exception.

The medics were out of the stocks early after taking some big hits and trading a few back. A downfield ball put pressure on the Uni which ultimately led to a mistake in front of the posts allowing Scott Young to burst over from short range to give the medics an early lead.

The big collisions stretched the medics thin and eventually the University side were able to score an unconverted try round the outside of the Medics’ defence. The second half led to more of the same open, expansive rugby which was very entertaining to watch.

Liam Wallace kicked a superb penalty to set the final score at 20-15, a historic victory for the Medics as the first time the Medics have ever beaten the University team.  Man of the match went to first year Timmy Welsh who is starting the season in flying form.

Spirits were high after the game and the boys reconvened at the Illicit Still for a few hard earned pints of Illicit Ale and some great food. Our famous Grilled Cheese Nachos and Full Scottish Breakfast went down well with the team. Some of the other patrons even joined in on the celebrations to round off a superb day for both sides.
